This October all pupils were asked to raise money and create a gift in a shoe box for children all over the world who would sadly, without this help, wake up on Christmas morning with no present at all. The charity event was launched through a week of assemblies that educated pupils on the amazing work of The Samaritan’s Purse charity – an international organisation set up in 1970, with the aim to help those in need. A key development of this aim was the creation of Operation Christmas Child or as it is more commonly known the Shoe Box Appeal.
All our pupils rose to the challenge and in two weeks we acted as a true community to collect 153 shoe box gifts filled with presents for girls and boys of all ages. We also raised £276 to help transport the gifts to those in need.
The Samaritan’s Purse is such a worthy cause and their Shoe Box Appeal is internationally known and supported. As the charity states ‘After sharing the story of the Good Samaritan, Jesus said “Go and do likewise.” That is the mission of Samaritan’s Purse – to follow the example of Christ by helping those in need and proclaiming the hope of the Gospel.’ – We at St Thomas More have been inspired to do the same and are very proud to support such a great charity. Well done and thank you to all.
